Big Ideas: What is a robinsonade? What is the essence of human nature?

Agenda:
  1. Tomorrow is a minimum day.
    1. You will report to your second period class at the beginning of the day.
    2. You will stay with that teacher for two hours.
    3. You will then switch classes with another teacher from Oxford house.
  2. We will take notes in preparation for our next novel.
  3. You have a new vocabulary list this week. SAT Letter C. Finish 50% by Monday.

Big Ideas: What is an internal compass?

Reading: Today we will read for 7 minutes.




Agenda:

  1. iTIme: Internal GPS
    1. Watch this Oprah clip about an "internal compass" 
    2. I will divide you into groups like a compass: North, South, East, and West.
      1. You will discuss how a GPS is like our internal compass.
    3. Watch the funny GPS clip. 
    4. Complete the compass activity.

Success Criteria:
  1. I can identify what an internal compass is.
  2. I know what shapes by internal compass and what disrupts it.
  3. I can identify a strategy to recalibrate (get back on track) my internal compass.

Homework:
  1. No new vocabulary.
  2. Make sure you are reading your third book at home. Your book review is due on October 4th.

CRSPR Discussion

Big Ideas: Because we CAN do something does it mean we SHOULD?

Reading: Today we will read for ten minutes.




Agenda:
  1. What is CRSPR?
  2. Today you will add your group's notes to the notes you created yesterday. You should write in pen today.
    1. What did your small group discover?
    2. Make sure you move from the left side to the right side. The sentence frames on the right help you dig deeper.
    3. With your group decide what are your best TQEs for today. Use the sentences on the right to express them.
  3. In the big group discussion, be courageous and join in.
  4. Add your group's TQEs to the Padlet wall.

Success Criteria:
  1. I can prepare for a discussion by taking quality notes.
  2. I can identify my best thoughts, questions, and epiphanies.
  3. I can participate in class discussions.

Deepening the TQE Process

Big Ideas: Because we CAN do something does it mean we SHOULD?

Reading: Today we will read for ten minutes.




Agenda:
  1. We will begin our second book review. You will find the instructions on the blog.
  2. What is CRSPR?
  3. Today we will read an article about CRSPR. We will use this article to help us go deeper when using the TQE process.
    1. Your job is to take notes on the article in preparation for the discussion tomorrow.
    2. Make sure you use the LEFT side, RIGHT side notes.
    3. This time I will check for the quality of your notes.
