Reading: You should be on your fourth book

Agenda:

  1. Read Act 2.3.1-22 the speech by Friar Lawrence in unison
  2. Discuss the various language tricks that Shakespeare uses in the play
  3. Create your own language tricks using Shakespeare's as an example
  4. Read Act 2.3.23-94 and look for another example of each language trick and write it down.


Homework:
1. Read 2.4-6 using MyShakespeare. You can write a one page summary on paper or test out with my one sentence quiz.

Goal: to imagine a scene and compare it to how others imagined it

Reading: Fill out the READING PROGRESS UPDATE FORM

Agenda:

  1. One question quiz for last night's homework. Go to SOCRATIVE and choose STUDENT LOGIN.  Enter your NAME and ENG9HONORS. Answer the question and put down your lid.
  2. Create your own individual promptbook for Romeo and Juliet 2.2.
    1. a neat, logical set design
    2. complete, thoughtful annotations
    3. evidence of clear understanding of the scene and its characters
  3. The set design should be different than the one from yesterday
  4. Make notes about entrances, exits, movements, and line delivery. Use MyShakespeare if you need it.
  5. Watch two versions of the balcony scene and compare them to what you imagined.

Essential Question: Are we in control of our fate?

Goal: to understand and perform the prologue to Act 2

Reading: You should be on your fourth book.

Agenda:
  1. You will make groups of seven.
  2. Assign different lines of the Act 2 Prologue to different members of your group. Each person in your group must have some part of the Prologue to say.
  3. Decide how you are going to Perform the Prologue. Here are a few ideas:
    1. You could have one voice echo another voice or an important word.
    2. Several voices could read an important word, line, or phrase together.
    3. Come up with gestures that go with your lines. You could even have two people in your group silently act out the lines (ex. Pretend to be Romeo and Juliet).
  4. Make sure you understand every part of the Prologue so that you can perform it well.
  5. Take the rest of the period to practice.
