      1. Write about a quote you really agree with OR one you strongly disagree with. How does fate come up in Romeo and Juliet?
  3. Google Classroom discussion. Fate in 5.1-2. What is Romeo's mood? Highlight or underline examples of fate.
    1. How does fate affect Romeo when he believe's Juliet is dead?
    2. To what degree is fate responsible for the tragic turn of events?

  1. Share you plot outlines with a partner. Did you have any parts you didn't understand?\
  2. Comic Relief
    1. What parts of this scene are funny?
    2. What parts of this scene are tragic?
    3. How would the play change if these scenes were omitted? Why might a director want to omit them?
  3. Brainstorm
    1. Who is responsible for Juliet's death?
    2. Research one of the characters and find lines that show they are responsible for her death.

  1. English Journal # Fear. Write about a time you truly felt afraid. How did this emotion affect you physically and mentally?
  2. Read 4.3 aloud. Each half of the class will take a line.
    1. Which images from Juliet's lines are the most vivid. Post your lines HERE
  3. Building the tomb. Using Juliet's lines in 4.3 how can we recreate the tomb in class?
  4. Role play: Warring consciences
    1. Divide into groups of Five. One person will play Juliet. The other four will play her conscience.
      1.  Juliet will say a line about taking the poison
      2.  The four people playing the conscience will argue for and against taking the poison.
    2. Discusson: Why is this scene important for the play?

1. Read 4.4-5 Create a plot outline for these scenes.

    4. We will end with the Globe on Screen version of 3.5

  6. Groups
    1. 3.1.1-35 Benvolio and Mercutio say they should get off the street and avoid the Capulets, but they don't. (2)
    2. 3.1.36-86 Benvolio and Mercutio encounter Tybalt and the Capulets. Romeo tries to break them up, but they fight. (4)
    3. 3.1.87-120 Romeo steps between Tybalt and Mercutio as they fight. Tybalt wounds Mercutio by running his sword under Romeo's arm. (4)
    4. 3.1.121-143 Benvolio reports Mercutio's death. Romeo vows revenge, slays Tybalt, and then flees. (3)
    5. 3.1.144-207 Citizens of Verona summon the prince, who banishes Romeo. (5)
