Big Idea: What is this class all about?
- What are the capacities of a literate individual?
- Today we will cover the first capacity: Independence.
- Open your English Journal. Start a new entry. Title it “Independence and Quote Sandwich”
- Share your English Journal with your random partner for today.
- In a separate color, each of you must write a sentence that explains what independence means using the definition below.
- Your sentences must have the number of words I assigned you in class.
- Next, create a new page on your Google Site called “My Capacities”
- Add the two sentences you came up with.
- On the same English Journal we have been using today, press enter and tab and write down the following quote:
- We will practice writing a quote sandwich, an important skill for this class.
- Many people assume that...
- X agrees/disagrees when he/she writes, "QUOTE," (AUTHOR 5).
- In other words, X believes...
- Now it is your turn. Find another quote on Google Images and create another quote sandwich. Use the pattern above.
- Work on Sweltering Words of Summer List
Success Criteria:
- I read my book for 10 minutes today.
- I can explain what it means to be independent.
- I understand that a quote sandwich has three parts.
Homework:
- Read for 10 minutes at home. You should finish your first book by August 31st.
- Work on your vocabulary. Due on Friday!
